Our client was both the owner and the interior designer. She and her partner purchased two one-bedroom apartments which were to be combined into a large one-bedroom apartment. Her general layout was an open plan and she hired us to help her realize her vision via design and documentation as well as permitting and construction administration.
This beautiful jewel of a space is as perfect for a quiet afternoon as it is for a lively soiree. The open kitchen layout took some finesse as there were three entry points, a large plumbing riser as well as a few structural elements projecting into the space, and a low window. The kitchen was to include laundry, bar seating and connection to the breakfast table. In the master bathroom, the client proposed using the footprint of the extra kitchen as a spa room – steam shower, rain shower and soaking tub.
We had worked with our interior designer client as her architect of record before but this project was a true collaboration from early schematic layout through detailed architectural elements (i.e. cabinetry, plumbing, lighting, etc.). We enjoyed the process of interpreting her intentions during design/documentation, assisting with site issues during construction, and offering feedback during her finish and product selections.
